WELCOME TO THE SAN LUIS VALLEY QUILT GUILD
The San Luis Valley Quilt Guild was founded in 1991 to promote the art, skill and appreciation of quilts and quilt making. We love having new members interested in quilting. Whether you are a novice, beginner, experienced or expert quilter, this guild has something for you. Ask questions of anyone at the guild, you will find us all willing to help.
The Guild meets the third Saturday of every month from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm or later at the Monte Vista Community Methodist Church located at 215 Washington in Monte Vista. Occasionally we have an all-day meeting, work session, or class with a potluck lunch. Meeting dates, details, and programs are published in the newsletter.
Annual dues are $25 due in June of each year. New members joining after January will pay dues of $10 until the next yearly cycle in June. Membership dues support the newsletter, morning coffee, and the general fund of the guild.
Committees & Activities of the Guild include:
Facility: assures that a responsible person has a key to the meeting location each month.
Membership: Welcomes new members and makes available a "welcome kit", including the bylaws, welcome letter and pattern for a name tag and a pin cushion. Ensures the new member's name and contact details are added to the roster.
Charity projects: One or more members coordinates the making and collection of quilts, stuffed animals, or other comfort items to distribute to groups in the community that help others.
Librarian: Tracks all books, magazines, or patterns that may be checked out to members for a 2-month period.
Projects/Challenges: presents ideas for a small project at most meetings, such as block of the month, challenge, block exchange, or pattern for a collective quilt.
Programs: arranges teachers for workshops or classes and offers some type of activity at most meetings.
Hospitality: tracks and purchases, as needed, supplies for morning coffee or potlucks for each meeting.
Quilt show: organizes the location, date, publicity, staffing and other related details for a large or small quilt show.
Retreat: organizes the location, date, meal sign-ups, and other details for one or more quilting retreats per year.
Fund raising: suggests and coordinates ways in which the guild can produce an income, if needed, to supplement all activities.
Other activities need member volunteers at times such as publicity, newsletter, courtesy cards, supply purchase, sorting and cutting donated fabrics, and many others. We welcome everyone's ideas for new and different guild activities. We look forward to having you involved.
